Football Goal Posts

Football objective posts pay an important role on the footy pitch. To score, the ball has to be kicked between the footy objective posts. The game of footy has been a sport loved throughout plenty of centuries, but to be able to play has not always been an simple thing.
.

Before the 1300's footy was a popular sport among the peasants, because it was played on foot. The upper classes preferred sports on horseback, such as Polo, & to them the sport was known as `Mob Football`. Mob footy was often played between the youths of villages, & the time they always played was Shrove Tuesday. The rules to the game in those days were far different to the modern day game, if there were any at all, & the number of injuries & damage sustained was high.

However, the people kept playing. Their love for the sport kept it alive. It is even reputed that King Henry VIII took part & ordered himself a pair of special footy shoes. The authorities struggled to uphold the law when it came to footy, & in the finish, in the coursework of the 1600's, it was Kings James I who lifted the ban. They instructed & persuaded the Christians to play on Sundays after their morning worship.

It was because of this that in the 1300's, King Edward III ordered a ban on the sport. The people grew riotous with excitement, & they feared "what evils would arise that God forbade". It is always disputed, though, that they believed the sport was distracting the men from their archery practice, which was something they needed at the time for war. For the next hundred years the country saw ban after ban being enforced against the sport. Punishment for playing was a fine a four pence or imprisonment.

As the game evolved through out the years, so did the goals. The 1500's saw the first recorded goals being used, consisting of bushes strategically planted. These were then known as gates, & finally objective posts were introduced. These, , have evolved since then, & now you can buy them in different sizes, whether you require the standard size of 24ft in length, or the junior size, 12ft in length, or something smaller for the more youthful children to have a kick around in the garden.

Later, the sport was encouraged in schools, where the scholars were of upper & professional class. In order to tame the sport, rules were created, including the off-side rule. In later years when the steam engine came in to use, matches could be arranged between schools of neighbouring counties, but each school had their own set of rules. In order to keep the game fair, the match with split in to halves. The first half was played to the first set of rules, & the second half was played to the second set.

Most of the rules brought about by the scholars, along with the footy objective posts, are still in use in today's matches. These are now important features to the sport that our society has loved for hundreds of years & were determined to play, despite the ban & the consequences, bringing us the footy that they have today.
